PHLI Block Party News X RubyHornet Contest

The PHLI Block party has become a staple of summer on the Southside of Chicago. The annual Block Party features the premiere of new PHLI designs, beautiful music, beautiful weather, and beautiful people as well as performances and appearances from some of Hip Hop’s greatest talents. The questions keep coming in for the 2008 edition, and Dave Jeff recently took time out with RH to explain where everything stands as far as this year’s PHLI Block Party, as well as give artists across the country a chance to earn a coveted performance spot....

“The PHLI Block Party has always been held in Hyde Park’s Harper Court. Recently, the University of Chicago purchased Harper Court, and has plans to redevelop it, which affects all of the properties currently inside. PHLI was told last week that we would not be able to hold the annual Block Party on the court property. The court and the University feel that we have gotten too big for this space,” he said.

Past PHLI Block Parties have featured performances by Twilight Tone, Timbuck2, Just Blaze and DJs Roosevelt Treasurechest as well as artists such as Kanye West, Rhymefest, GLC, Peedi Crak, and Keith Murray. Last year’s party drew over 1,000 people.

Dave Jeff also said that while the party has had to be postponed, PHLI is moving full steam ahead and currently securing a new location. “The slated date was the last week in July, but it has been pushed back into the middle of August. Stay tuned, as more info comes, it will be made available. We will still have our surprise performances, and all of that PHLI goodness. The PHLI brand is Chicago and it is family. We are going to go to the park and have a BBQ with celebrity guests and talent."

A big part of the PHLI Block Party is showcasing upcoming Chicago talent. Keeping with that tradition, PHLI has partnered with RubyHornet.com to offer one lucky artist/group a slot at this year’s PHLI Block Party. Interested artists can submit their music to PHLI DJ and RubyHornet editor, Roosevelt Treasurechest via email to Alex@RubyHornet.com.This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it He will listen to the music and will pick the Block Party’s featured performer. Music must be submitted by August 4th, and be accompanied by bio information. Eligible music will also be posted on RubyHornet.com, and the winning artist/group will also be featured in an RH column. The contest is open to artists on any level and in any location.
